Today has been hilarious! Taking summer school is not exactly the thing that students want to be doing with their time right now. We had so many students just walk out of the school today that it has been comical. Now, our students aren't used to coming to school every day because during the traditional school year they only have to come in once a week. Summer school requires them to be here four days a week for five hours each day. Let's just say that some are having a difficult time with the new schedule...if they miss one day they get dropped and don't get a refund.
The first student was frustrated that no one noticed he needed help in math so he wandered around our cubicles for a while and then stormed out our back door. We called his parents and they came and looked for him because he wasn't answering his cell phone. They found him after an hour and brought him back. Poor kid.
The second student really should have graduated this month, but she struggles in math, so she has to finish this one class to get her diploma. She has always felt like she is much better than anyone at school, including the teachers, and so she doesn't like to follow ANY rules. When she got up to walk out an hour early we chased her down and she came back, reluctantly.
One student just decided to not come back from our lunch break. We called dad and he came down to ask if his son had shown up yet. His son runs away a lot so he put a GPS device in his son's cell phone so he could track him. His son is on to the GPS though and turns off his cell phone. Poor kid is probably going back to juvie.
Although I'm not exactly thrilled to be here either, it is good pay, and it's turning out to be rather entertaining! ( : I'm kind of excited to see who tries to 'escape' tomorrow!
